Freshman/Sophmore Projects

these are multiple of my beginner projects from my freshman and sophomore year. they helped me to learn the basics and to get a great introduction to animation.
Firstly my first introduction to 3D animation was using SketchUp to model a house. We were required to look up a houses floor plan and from there model the house. During this exercise is where I really started to find my love for 3d Modeling, and I noticed this when many of my classmates talked about how much they hated SketchUp however I completely loved the entire assignment. (please forgive the poor video quality as it was from many years ago and the files were lost).
This is a walk cycle that I made during my sophomore year. The robot is heavily inspired by Eve from Wall-E. A similar project we worked on is an inch worm. Both of these projects taught me about keyframe loops and timing. By creating a loop of either moving legs or the worm condensing and stretching I'm able to create the illusion that they are moving by themselves. The biggest issue with these are that with how I timed the movements you can see the worm and robot slipping on the ground and it breaks the illusion.
This was my first introduction to multiplane animation. Our animation teacher first taught us about the history of multiplane animation and its introduction by Disney and the multiplane camera before teaching us about its use in after effects. This animation was kept very basic and the focus was more on the technic and how it can be used. Below you can see the various different layers I used.
Finally we have a VFX explosion. while not strictly "animaion" it uses a lot of the same technics and software. I haven't learned much about VFX since this assignment however I hope to return to it and learn more at some point.
